    1. JUNIOR SHOOTING PROGRAM!!! We are starting up our Junior Shooting Program again and looking for volunteers for the Junior Shooting Program Committee and Leadership team to get the program off the ground.  If interested in this Rewarding opportunity please reach out to our Post Historian Chance Bainum  

    • Concessions/ Canteen assistance - Volunteers desired to assist with canteen bar and concessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during post events. Sign up on posted schedule in Canteen or contact post via email/phone call.  TAKE HOME TIPS!!! 
    • Communications Team - VOLUNTEER FROM HOME!!! 
      • Support the post by assisting with phone calls and email communications to post members to capture/update contact info and share information about ongoing events. 
      • "Buddy List" contacts- Assist the post in reaching out to our more senior post family members for buddy check-ins. 
    • Outreach Team - Join our current outreach members in assisting with communications within the community and with other organizations on future events, programs, and fundraisers such as :
      • Veterans Day Parade (November)
      • Wreaths Across America (December)
      • Junior Shooting Program, Boys/Girls State, Oratorical Scholarship
      • Fundraisers , Social Dinners, Parents Night Out, Tent Camping, Golf/Dart/corn-hole tournaments

          Our Story

          Parker County Post 163 was chartered

          March 1, 1920 with 15 members,

          meeting at various places, such as

          Holland’s Lake, through the kindness

          of G.A. Holland. In 1933, under

          Commander C.C. Key, we moved to

          our first Post home on Front Street

          and North Elm. Later, we relocated to

          703 Eureka Street. In May of 2013, we

          moved into our current home on

          Car

          American Legion Auxiliary departments nationwide proudly host ALA Girls State, an amazing week of learning focused on responsible citizenship, leadership, and love for the ALA’s mission of serving veterans, military, and their families. 

          Oratorical Contest

          The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and spea

          The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship. The program has featured numerous politicians and prominent contestants over the years, including former presidential candidate Alan Keyes, national television commentator and talk radio host Lou Dobbs, and former U.S. Vice President  Mike Pence.

          Youth Cadet Law Enforcement

          American Legion departments and posts are encouraged to sponsor Youth Cadet Law Enforcement Programs in cooperation with their State Police or Highway Patrol. From state to state the name of the program may vary and include such terms as Trooper Week Program, Law Enforcement Training, and State Police Youth Week.

          American Legion departments and posts are encouraged to sponsor Youth Cadet Law Enforcement Programs in cooperation with their State Police or Highway Patrol. From state to state the name of the program may vary and include such terms as Trooper Week Program, Law Enforcement Training, and State Police Youth Week.

          The program provides first-hand experiences and insight into the operations of law enforcement agencies. The program also affords these highly motivated young people an opportunity to consider law enforcement as a potential career choice. Recruitment of high school students, both male and female, representing all communities and backgrounds in the state, is one goal of the program. Once these young people have been selected to attend the program, the law enforcement community is challenged to present a program that will instill an understanding and respect for law enforcement professionals and their techniques.

          Boys Nation

          Founded in 1935, American Legion Boys State and Boys Nation are a highly respected, hands-on programs where high school juniors learn about local, state, and federal government by running mock governments and participating in civic activities.

          Two participants from each Boys State are chosen to attend Boys Nation in Washington, D.C., where

          Founded in 1935, American Legion Boys State and Boys Nation are a highly respected, hands-on programs where high school juniors learn about local, state, and federal government by running mock governments and participating in civic activities.

          Two participants from each Boys State are chosen to attend Boys Nation in Washington, D.C., where they take part in a weeklong deep dive into federal government by acting as U.S. senators. Boys Nation includes mock legislative sessions, political party conventions, and visits to national landmarks, and many alumni have gone on to hold public office or work in politics.
